Look at this picture by the infamous street artist Banksy. In the comments below write what you think the artist is trying to communicate. Do you know where this wall is?
“A wall is a very big weapon. It’s one of the nastiest things you can hit someone with.” - Banksy (Banging Your Head Against a Brick Wall)
Read the 10 mistakes made by art students here. List the five you think you need to think about on your folio.
How to start your folio. First you need to pick some an overall theme. Then you need some good artists. Once you have these two ingredients you are good to go. To help you with your folio ideas check out this list of artists.
Starting a folio is hard work. It comes with all sorts of questions, where to start, what to draw, what technique to use? Here are three examples of how to start a folioboard. What I want you to do is rank them from Achieved to Excellence. Give me reasons as to why you have made the choices you have.
Once you have selected your 5 artists, I want you to create a mind map tying all of your ideas together. Go to Mindmeister to create your online mind map. You will have to sign in. Use your school email. Once you are in create a map. Use images, words, ideas and whatever to help build your idea. When you are finished share it with me at [email protected]. I will post it up here!
Choosing the right artists for your folio is an important part in the folio process. You should aim to use three, but it is common to use more. This week I want you to identify 5 artist who you might use. They could be connected by subject (they all paint landscape) theme (their work deals with feminist ideas) or technique ( they all paint using thin layers). Think about how you could link them and transition from one to the other.
Mr D will hand out a list of possible artists. Or you could look at a list here. Once you have selected three I would like you to make a comment down below listing you five artists and your name. I have done an example below. Hey all, well done on finishing your supersized paintings! Here is a selection of examplars this project done by another school. They painted both sides but I think ours were cooler!
Today you will be having a look at some of the countries top folio boards. Here you will find last years top art exhibition entries. Have a look and answer these questions.
Year 11 tutorials up for printmaking unit. A big thanks to Mr Cook for helping out with the production. Fantastic.
It's alive! Yes, the Opunake High School Art page is up. Here you can find what is going on in the Art department. It will have assessment materials, resources and interesting stuff to check out. It's still a work in progress but hopefully by the start of 2013 it will be fully operational for all year levels.
